From Toronto Pig Save to the Oprah Winfrey Show

January 27, 2013

Dear Readers,

In my last post, I mentioned how celebrity James Cameron supported plant-based empowerment at the Ocean Blue Film Festival. While Cameron takes an environmental perspective, many other celebrities and activists speak from the angle of health and ethics.

Recently, I stumbled upon actress Alicia Silverstone’s inspiring words on the Oprah Winfrey Show. I believe this show was broadcasted a while ago but her words appear to be timeless and positive. Both celebrities drew perspectives from the book The Kind Diet and had an open conversation on being “kind” to self and other beings in easy ways.  If you look at Silverstone’s health and spirit, they are central to her full potential and to her her shining path.  In the video, I found her trip to the grocery store really fun and uplifiting!

The video brightened my day after coming across brutally cold conditions of non-human animals in transportation trucks. Personally, I feel my transition from Australia’s 41 C to Spain’s temperature in the mid / low teens and – 25 C in Canada.  I just came back from travelling and speaking at different locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Singapore, London, and Barcelona and hit the cold in Toronto!  However, nothing compares to brutally cold conditions that non-human animals must endure in transport trucks everyday. America’s Mercy for Animals as well as Canada’s CRFB radio Talk 1010, and Toronto Sun covered Toronto Pig Save’s investigation into these climatic conditions this week. With all my university degrees in media, I have immense respect for investigative journalism. I am also critically aware of the myths and what commercial media will not tell consumers for profit. My love and gratitude to friends and colleagues Anita Krajnc, Mary Fantaske, and Paul York for their academic, media, and activist work this week. Their work can be read in details here: http://www.mfablog.org/2013/01/as-sub-zero-temperatures-grip-the-nation-animals-suffer.html.

If you watch the video in the above link, you will notice young innocent beings that have been abused all their life and can barely move due to all kinds of illnesses developed in dark factory farms.  This is not an isolated case and sadly, this is what is offered to us in supermarkets – it is heartbreaking.

The good news is that there are amazing vegan alternatives and I am always learning about them always!

Hope this post brings promise for shining days ahead.  I am sure Alicia Silverstone’s video on the Oprah Winfrey Show will bring a smile to your day. I know it did for me as I continue to write on celebrities and shining paths!

Thank you for stopping by and reading this post.

Wishing you a bright week and lots of love,

Samita
